ECOpoint is an eye controlled interface for the ECO-14, Prentke Romich Company’s (PRC), premier speech generating device. ECOpoint uses a gaze based system, giving the user full control of all aspects of the ECO including communication, environmental control, and computer functions for email, internet, word processing, and control of third-party programs.

System name(s): ECOpoint

Who can use the system
Target users ECOpoint is designed for persons with disabilities when direct selection or head tracking may be difficult. Individuals with (but not limited too) ALS, Multiple sclerosis, Rhett Syndrome, Traumatic Brain Injury, Cerebral Palsy, and Spinal Cord injuries could consider the ECOpoint as a option to meet their daily communication, language, and computing needs.
What is required from the user ECOpoint has the largest “EYEBOX” in the industry measured at 10” x 15” x 8". This large volume accommodates users with a great deal of head and body movement without having to limit their range of motion to operate the system. Designed for ultimate reliability and convenience, ECOpoint “remembers” the user, so if you move in and out of the “EYEBOX” there is no need to recalibrate the system.
Can the system be operated entirely by the user without assistance once the system is setup and running? Once the system is turned on, the user can independently access all features for system setup, calibration, and preferences.

Tolerance to ambient light / sunlight Works well under varying light conditions. ECOpoint is very tolerant to ambient light and interference. ECOpoint can be used in most indoor and outdoor lighting environments as long as direct sunlight or a bright light source is not coming in from behind the unit. If sunlight or glare is a problem, the easiest solution is to move the user to a new position away from the source.
Tolerance to eye glasses and contact lenses Works well in most cases.
Accommodation to human eye variations (iris color, ethnic background) Works well in all cases (iris color or ethnic background has no effect). No effect due to iris color
Freedom of head movements Moderate movements (>5cm < 20cm). ECOpoint has the largest “EYEBOX” in the industry measured at 10” x 15” x 8".
Mobility ECOpoint can be attached to a wheelchair using any of the same mounting options available with the ECO-14. In addition to the standard wheelchair options, floor, desktop, and adjustable mounting arms can be used.
