This self-support system allows sick or seriously disabled persons to operate electronic equipment and nursing equipment by themselves, by conveying their needs through a computer synthesized voice. A nurse is not needed. The user need only look at the menu on the screen and blink his/her eyes (or stare for several seconds).

Who can use the system
Target users ALS patients or those with muscular dystrophy. Elderly disabled persons. Disabled persons requiring a nurse in constant attendance.
What is required from the user Able to focus eyes on the screen. User must be able to blink eyes while staring at the screen. User must be able to understand the menu on the screen.
Can the system be operated entirely by the user without assistance once the system is setup and running?

Additional information/accessories This system is mainly sold in Japan. As Japan's regulation of subsidy for disabled peoples is only for "COMMUNICATION AID", this system still supports for their communication. However, the realization of these above functions are problems only on the development of application software, not on the technology of detecting the user's eyegazing points. If European demands these function on the system, we can realize them so easy.

The technical information below is mainly targeted at developers.

What is the eye tracker physical interface type? Serial. The standard interface port is SIO(RS-232C). But if some adapter connects to the interface, it can convert to various interface port which is attached with the computer system.
Does the eye tracker require manufacturer's own dedicated software to operate, or can it be used with other suitable software? Only with dedicated software by manufacturer.
If the eye tracker can be used with other suitable software, will the manufacturer make the required control protocols available? Yes, to all.
Does the manufacturer's own dedicated software have an API (programming interface) to allow control over the manufacturer's software and eye tracker by third party applications? Yes.
If the manufacturer's own dedicated software and eye tracker has an API, will the manufacturer make the required control protocols available? Yes, to all.
